A Big Thanks

First, I would like to thank a few people for keeping my little web experiment going. Mikey at Action World, [MM]THX at Action Quake Forever and Death Magnet at AQMD for their time in trying to keep you, the players updated as to the whereabouts of The 6th Floor. It has been a rough and ugly month, but it looks like troubles are now behind me. It is now official and I do not expect to see any sort of response from the party who has control of the server in Scandinavia. This has been confirmed by another source. No big lose, it will take some time to win back a few supporters of the site.

I know I keep talking about big changes taking place. There are many in the works, such as a new and improved look of the site, better navigation and better quality of reviews. I have been working with a second party about revising the map reviews. It is actually an interesting idea when it was proposed to me, and it makes quite a bit of sense. After I we draw up the specifics, I will share them with you. All of this is leading to a better 6th Floor to server you, the Action gaming public. Because, isn’t that why I am here?

Onto the new maps…there have been a good amount or releases lately. Since I have been unable to really do much in the way of daily updates and notes on maps, I have been spending much more time playing and fine tuning my sniping skill (all my clan members quit your snickering). From Jesper Myrfors comes three maps, all of which offer up some excellent texturing. There is something to be said about photo-realistic textures. His released maps are: alley1, alley2 and hwy666. Check out this screen shot from alley1. Some of the best texturing I have seen to date.

From Squirrel comes his follow up map to Loveboat called temple. This map transports you into a Indiana Jones type movie setting and as Death Magnet mentions feels a bit like jungle1. The other releases include snakesmap by _Solidsnake and camel by Joost van der Velde and Nick van Ginkel, known as The Riddler and Mindmaker.

New Review

I have just finished the map review for Squirrel’s map, Loveboat. It is a very good looking and well laid out map. If you get a chance check the review and download the map. I know it is an older map, but Asylum by Holy Goat will be posted later today, as I will hopefully get an interview with him later on. For those who frequent the AQMD Forum, Swoosh is no longer the Monkey Wrangler of the forum. His tenure came to a close last week. His replacement is Deltree, who is going to attempt to keep all the monkeys in order and answer all your map related questions. I am also still collecting votes for maps you want to see in a new map pack, while Death Magnet works on a poll, so ICQ me or email with your favorites. Be sure to check out the Test Maps, as there have been some new screen shots posted, and while you are at it, fill out the questionnaire, which can be found at the Test Matrix at AQMD.

FINALLY! Aggression is Finished!

Alright then…it is about time I complete this review of KaRRiLLioN’s map titled Aggression City. If you have not experienced this map, do check it out. I consider it his best map to date. It is rather small map and very tight. Do you own a hand cannon? Then definitely bring it with you for this beauty. In conjunction with AQMD, I renamed the ‘Mapper’s Corner’ to ‘Mapper’s Spotlight’. This week in the spotlight is Squirrel, who has recently had his map, Loveboat released.

Back on Track

It may not look like it, but I am getting back on track here at The 6th Floor. There has been a bit of news floating around, most of which I am sure you have seen on sites such as Action World and Action Quake Forever, so I see no reason to repeat it. There were two new maps released yesterday at AQMD. The first was Loveboat by Squirrel, which is set on a cruise ship, or for those of us still living in the 1970s, the TV series. And no Issac will not be able to mix you a drink. The second is Motel by bobbins, which is set in a rundown and old hotel. There is also a new Map Resource d00d in place at AQMD, that being FiReWaLKeR[TDm], who created Murder. He is there for all your resouces and mapping needs. Holy Goat has decided to concentrate more on Action Half-Life. Also, Swoosh the infamous “Monkey Wrangler” of the forum will be wrangling no more at the AQMD. Not sure if he will still be involved in testing or not. I have yet to hear.

Busy Day with Updates

It has been quite a productive day, as I have been updating, interviewing and reviewing for The 6th Floor. I followed Death Magnet’s thoughts regarding The CLQ’s top Action Quake 2 maps. Now, on the main page, there will be a list of the Top Ten Action Quake 2 Maps. This will continuously be updated to reflect any change in map ranking. This will hopefully help answer that nagging question of, “Which maps are most popular?” and “Which maps should I download?” You must remember that not all servers will be running these maps exclusively, but this should give most players a base map file on which to build.I also was able to interview two mappers today. The first interview was with Gerbil! of the Urban series. You should be able to see this interview in a few days. Since he has moved on to Half Life: Counterstrike, he is most likely not going to make any more maps for Action Quake 2. The other author, is a relative new comer to Action mapping, that being, Squirrel, who lives in Finland. His most recent submission, Loveboat should be released in coming days. if you have not checked this map out, head over the ‘Test Maps’ under ‘New Action Maps’ and download it. Looks to be a very promising map.I have also updated the ‘Action Map Reviews’ to reflect what I am currently working on. Those maps include Aggression by KaRRiLLioN =AR=, Longfall by Kristian Berg, which is still in testing, Trainer by SGT Sneaky and Asylum by Holy Goat. I should have outlast two finished by tomorrow, one which is Aggression City, the other, I am undecided as of yet.I have also added the Q2 Plugin, which is available for The 6th Floor Action Quake 2 Team Play Server. The ip address is 207.182.230.18:27910. It should be up and running on a regular basis, of course right now, I am receiving “bad address.” If you want to check the action out, give it a try. We are still working out some minor details. Expect good things come Saturday. We are into hours now, waiting in anticipation for Action Half Life. I have thought it over and I will be reviewing Action Half Life maps. It will probably take a bit of extra time to get everything up and going, so don’t expect much right away. There are 10 maps included in the download. We will see how this goes and attempt to begin reviews from there.
