“You’re too loud!”

It is not longer a surprise when something out of the ordinary occurs while riding BART. While I have not seen or experienced everything, there have been occasions when weirdness reigned supreme. Tonight was an interesting one somewhat. I finish work, clock out and make my way down to platform one at Lake Merritt. My Richmond bound train is running a bit late because of an A’s game that let out and the dwells were extended delaying the arrival of my train.

I board up in the lead car and stand at the door entrance since I am off boarding at 12th Street. When I board the up cab door opens and the train operator in a stern, New York accents addresses a group of four black females. “You are too loud and I cannot hear my radio over you!” She continued on asking them to take the octave of the voices down. She thanks them and returns to the cab, door slamming behind her.

The four girls, somewhat stunned looked at her and upon the door closing mocked her for her addressing them. My thought at that exact moment, “don’t like it, move!” The entire first car was empty as was the next car, looking through the inner closure car doors. As we approached 12th Streets, they four, obnoxious teens got up and did just what I thought, they moved.

I did find it interesting the train operator would actually address a group being “too loud.” Sure they were sitting in the seats facing each other directly behind the cab and were not causing a ruckus (Can you describe the ruckus? – 80’s movie quote) when I boarded. Nonetheless it is the train operator’s train and any out of the ordinary behavior is subject to question.
