Busted: Section 8

We start from a community regular when it comes to knowing his shizit about level design. That would be INVIS over at Section 8 Studios. As we continues to work on a plethora of fronts, such as the next vehicle pack release, you can check out his latest handiwork, a parking meter and a neon lighted sign.

We also check in with cornholio, who is still experimenting with layouts. This time around, as featured in the Latest Action Shot, you can see a full scale model of a bridge. Screen shots look somewhat promising, we will is and when a version comes out and grab a few more shots.

Another new level has hit the Urban Terror scene. The level is called ut_hacienda by Lexiboy and you can grab the file from, here. Check out screen shots, the map seems to have a bit of ambiance, but looks really dark, something gamers are not akin to. Lexiboy says, “I think it looks like nice but the fps are bad 🙁 … but for my first map its not bad 😉” You be the judge, as gamers are quickly turned off by low FPS maps. You can check out some screen shots in this thread.

A bit late on this last piece of news, but if you are into the mod, then chances are you have already seen it. Silicon Ice Development has released three new map packs for the community. When they say new, they do not mean new maps. That is, unless you are a new gamer to the community. The packs are broken into three different downloads:

  • TS/TDM Pak: Pgrounds-nd, Bungalow, Cambridge, Cargo_lite, Office
  • CTF Pak: Subway, Citygardens, Intermodal, Druglord2, Eagle
  • Popular Pak: Laneway2, Golgotha, Demolition, Dville, Druglord

Many good levels are included in these three packs. So, if you are short a few levels, then I recommend downloading the individual levels or the map packs.

Some have inquired about the status of ut_streets, that I am rebuilding for Urban Terror. With all the poop that has been going on since last week, I have not had time to get back into Gtk to play around. But, this has given me some time to think about what I want to do with the level. Hopefully within the next few weeks I can dedicate a bit of time to it.

One Cool Cat

INVIS have been keeping very busy over at Section 8 Studios. His recent work can be seen in a few upcoming levels, one from SweetnutZ (you know it as the snow map) and from Servinal of 4Saken, in his level, ut_scottbase. The new model is a Thiokal Spryte 2 passenger snow cat. Check out these shots of the snow cat.

Some might have heard that cloudscapes has put aside his ut_canyon level in favor of a new design and level. “I’ve had an unwelcome surprise on how q3a seems to be handling polygons while my work on ut_canyon,” says cloudscapes. For more information on this “abandoned level, check this link. His new level is tentatively titled, ut_nightoperation. He describes the level as, “night time nature map with about 1024 units viewing distance before everything becomes completely black. Except for the many lights on the structures and in strategic positions on the map…One base is a scientific lab. The other is a chopper/parachute drop off.”

Work on ut_streets continues…slowly. As I mentioned, it will not be included in Beta 2.6. Actually, I don’t have much time right now, as we prepare for a release of the “next” beta. I will also enroll the talents of Dragonne and RabidCow to kick in their talents and knowledge when it comes to working within GtkRadiant.

I had plans of kicking out a few reviews, while I have been on vacation the past ten days. No, I was not lazy at all, but my efforts are directed in other directions at the moment (Beta 2.6) and have not had much time to update at all. But fear not, we have a few good reviews forthcoming.

I also want to say thanks to those who responded by e-mail on my latest rant, Busted Punk! Many seemed to get a kick out of it and agreed with what I had to say. Bottom line, CHEATING SUCKS! So, if you have not read it, check it out.

Spies Like SID

Seems I have gotten a bit behind schedule here on “the floor.” I had intended on wrapping up the a Fem Fatale Series, but I received quite a bit of interest from the females on |d’angels| down in Australia and I have not gotten a date yet *pokes f4nt0m45*. So without hesitation I will share one more with you and THEN wrap up the series. Today, check out isajones. She is but one of three in her family who frag in Urban Terror. Also props and an honorably mention to Angel aka death_angel from |d’angels| who e-mailed.

Thanks to ShminkyBoy, he has provided a new light entity pack for The 6th Floor. “It is a light shader pack called realworld_light that give mappers light entities that resemble real world lighting temperatures,” says ShminkyBoy. There are four categories of light source: incandescent, florescent, metal halide, mercury vapor, and sodium, each with several levels of light intensity. So get your new lighting sources in our Files Section. Thanks Shminky!

A quick shout out to INVIS and the gang over at Section 8 Studios. He continues to recruite new talent in order to create some of those kick ass Urban Terror levels you see on S8S. Morphine, Stealth and Leprechaun all now are involved in S8S. As for the level, Point Blank? WTF, you say? It is still in beta, two actually. It is still under development. We will check in with INVIS on the current status as Beta 2.6 draws ever closer. Although I am all wet for ut_airport designed after San Diego Lindbergh Field. This is not a new shot, but check this shot out!

Thought I would give you a quick tour of the “newbie tower” as it was once known during the early days of Urban Terror. This was back before anyone played it. The story goes, there was a tower that reached towards the heavens. If you made it to the tower of that tower, then you saw a sign that read, “If you can read this, you are a newbie!” Why a newbie? Because once you got up there, you usually played the starring role of ‘target’ to someone with a sniper rifle. The tower was knocked over in Beta 2.0 and will make a return in Beta 2.6. You can see the old tower, still lying in the water, which servers as a route back onto land. Enjoy the shots.

And for those who just cannot get enough “smack” when it comes to 2.6 (this mean you, Libben!) you can check out the newly installed Beta 2.6 Cam. Just click on the The SniperCAM link and then the screen shot. You will see two cams. Enjoy the free, early shots of Beta 2.6.
