30 Second Beer Review: California Coast Beer Company Belgian Wit

Belgian Witbier is one of the oldest and most specific wheat beer traditions in European brewing — pale, hazy, unfiltered, brewed with unmalted wheat and spiced with coriander and orange peel by tradition. Cal Coast’s version stays faithfully in that tradition while using Nugget and Amarillo hops as a distinctly California touch. Nugget provides the clean bittering backbone at just 12 IBU — present but invisible, structural rather than expressive. Amarillo does something more interesting: its characteristic orange blossom and citrus quality amplifies the style’s traditional orange-citrusy fruitiness rather than competing with it, making the hop choice feel like a deliberate flavor decision rather than a generic addition.
