30 Second Beer Review: Cal Coast Beer Company Munich Helles Lager

The Helles is one of the most deceptively difficult styles in brewing — a German lager tradition that leaves absolutely nowhere to hide. No big hop character to distract, no roasted malt complexity to lean on, just clean fermentation, fresh grain, and technical precision. Cal Coast’s version uses Perle hops, a traditional German noble-adjacent variety with a mild, herbal, slightly floral and spicy character that fits the style perfectly — subtle bittering support without any of the citrus or tropical fruit you’d expect from American varieties.
