Ah Hell!
I would like to say things improved yesterday with the CW contest, unfortunately that was not the case. I fired up Win-Test and attempted a handful of QSOs, but much like yesterday I had very little luck in logging any new countries. I look forward to the used Yaesu FT-1000MP from N6RO this week. As I have stated numerous times, but filters will make a world of difference when working CW and RTTY contests.
Prior to the start of the CW contest I was conversing with KX5JT in #amateur_radio on EFNet on Thursday and he mentioned the start of a Feld Hell Net sponsored by the Feld Hell Club on 40M (7.077MHz). We both joined the FHC and participated in the net.
Feld Hell is a unique mode “of sending and receiving text using facsimile technology.” What makes it unique is “that the characters are not decoded, but “painted” or printed on a screen.” All of my FH contacts have been made using the DM780 suite included in Ham Radio Deluxe. To date I have made seven contacts using the mode including the first ham to WAS using Feld Hell, WA7NB.
This mode adds another dimension to operating and look forward to some of the upcoming contests and events sponsored by the FHC. Should provide hours of operating and provide a new learning experience.
