AT&T – Bad Channel Packages

Who the hell comes up with these pricing packages for AT&T Uverse? I believe I mentioned on T6F, if not I know for a fact I posted it on DSL Reports the horrible experience I have had so far from AT&T regarding my…err…wife’s decision to change cable/Internet providers.

Comcast was getting bad, especially in our neighborhood, where the local nodes were being oversold and connection speeds for the Internet were terribly slow during the evening hours. There were other issues with Comcast, such as their picture quality, which if not HD was terrible, very pixelated. So I will give AT&T an added star for their non-HD pictures that is thanks in part to the fiber net (FIOS) that runs into the house from the street.

Now what is really getting my goat is their channel selection/packages. The main reason for switching was to get improved Internet speeds and save some money. Well, from day one we have not saved a damn penny on a monthly basis. We already had phone service through them so we were switching two services. As mentioned on the DSL Reports site, the salesman was a snake, as most are. They are lying sons-of-bitches who will do or say ANYTHING in order to get you to switch. Unfortunately, I was taken in by the empty promises.

So back to the current issue. With Comcast I was able to see Fox Soccer Channel and Gol TV through an extended cable package. Not with AT&T! In order to get the aforementioned channels, as well as Setanta Sports, I need to upgrade to their top tier package (additional $20 over the current package) and purchase the International Package (additional $15) in order to add two more channels. What’s worse is I have all these movie channels that I could care less about, Starz, Cinemax, Encore and lord knows what else that doesn’t carry shit on them that I want to see.

Unfortunately, there is alternate solution to this dilemma. I either pay an additional $35/month to AT&T or STFU and deal with only FSC and forget the other two footie channels. I just think it is piss poor planning on the part of AT&T and how their assemble their viewing packages. I don’t need 40 movie channels, nor want them. I can only see my wife’s expression surfing the TV and seeing we have the Playboy Channel available. That would go over like a lead brick.

So if you are thinking of switching from some other service to AT&T, don’t you will regret your decision. I have not been happy since the switch and wish we would have remained with Comcast or even considered going with a dish setup.
