Unburritable!
Have you ever had a big ass burrito? Growing up in SoCal, so close to the Mexican border, I thought any establishment that ended with ‘-bertos’ for example, Robertos, Alibertos, Jilbertos was a pretty god damn Mexican food restaurant. Granted, they did not all receive ‘A’ ratings hanging in their windows, but the policy of “don’t ask” when you order was commonplace.
Having moved to NoCal, I have given up searching out those small, corner Mexican taco shops and found something new. Something better! I was indoctrinated into the Chipotle [pronounced chip-POAT-le] way of life when I first visited NoCal when I was still courting my now wife. I can still remember my first order as a virgin burrito maker, it was a barbacoa with black beans, mild salsa, roasted chili-corn salsa, sour cream and cheese. And DAMN was that the best burrito I had tasted!
That was 2003, nearly 2 years ago I began this infatuation with their burritos. there are 40, 960 different ways to get your meal at Chipotle. Last year I made this part of my nightly ritual when leaving to go to work. I would swing by the Pleasant Hill location and order the same burrito nightly; chicken with pinto beans, mild and hot salsa, cheese and guacamole. Oh yeah and a side of chips, $8.06!
I guess you could call me a regular. Some go to a bar after work, others to a coffee house, but I…I went to Chipotle. Now and then, I would be greeted by the manager or one shift supervisors and on occasion they bought my meal. That was mighty nice of them! Even now, I don’t go as often, but I am still ordering the same burrito and seeing the same friendly faces who make my burrito a masterpiece.
Hopefully you have tasted perfection, I have and I am a burrito fan for life! If you are interested in some of their company recipes, check out Chipotlefan.com. I have made the guacamole and it turned out great!
