Oswald: MIA?

“Oswald screwed the pooch!!!” Yep, I sure did. Since last Friday’s release Urban Terror Beta 2 has been “en fuego” with the Quake III Community. The mod has been averaging 500-800 gamers everyday based on GameSpy Stats. Those numbers are a far cry from the 80-100 we saw from Beta 1 to Beta 1.27. Silicon Ice Development is quite pleased of their achievement to date and continues to work at modest pace in order to fix some glaring bugs that have reared their ugly heads recently. At last count I think the number I heard was nearly 80!

Now onto my missing in action story. As I was saying last Friday was a hectic night, which carried into Saturday day, the day after and nonstop work. I spent about 12 hours on the forums and in IRC answering questions and finding solutions, along with some other development team members. Sunday would be cut very short, as I was supposed to leave for Chicago, due to 6 weeks of job related training. Unfortunately I forgot to give the keys to NRGizeR, but it looks like he has been keeping up with new tutorials. Check them out, if you are a mapper, or even a wannabe! Like the Spice Girls were. So, I have spent all of last week in 8-10 hours of training a day. And spent the nights in my Chicago hotel room, on a laptop connected to the Internet at 26.4k. Do you realize how damn slow that is? Holy shit!??!?! I didn’t, but it quickly became evident! I am doing the same thing tomorrow, as I leave for Chicago again, so don’t expect much in the way of updates all next week.

The 6th Floor will be undergoing some MAJOR design changes at the end of the month, which might have the site down for a few days. The scope of the site will remain similar in nature, focusing on the quality Urban Terror maps, along with an expanded map development/tutorial site, thanks to the resident pink bunny, NRGizeR. The other areas are still up for consideration. As the mod is consuming more of my time, I seem to have less and less to concentrate my efforts. I also know there were a few who wanted to shack up and put there site content here. That is still possible and I will be contacting you as soon as I can.

Finally, it was a piece I composed last week, as I was sitting in a middle seat, in the ass end of an airplane, somewhere over the middle of who the f*ck knows where. It is a piece I had been meaning to compose for some time. It talks about the last 18 months and out development. It is titled, “From Beta 1 to Beta 2 and will give you some idea what SID has been up to and what is planned. Enjoy the read and I will try to give you some juicy information before I bug out for Chi-town again.
