As I mentioned in the Urban Terror Forums, with WetWired‘s consent, I will show off some of the shots which led up the official announcement of the latest Urban Terror level, ut_revolution.
This level originally started out as a redesign of Bot Killer’s Beta 1 Urban Terror level, Trainyard. As many quickly found out, this level was a serious FPS killer, with all large open areas and plethora of crates. We all know now, that crates come in many shapes and sizes. The map was basically created and mirror, while being rotated. It was a decent sniper map and quite popular on many notable servers in the Urban Terror Community. Yet, with the upcoming release of Beta 2, something needed to be done to this level.
[SHOT #1] | [SHOT #2] | [SHOT #3]This is a sampling of what the original Trainyard by Bot Killer looked when it was released with Beta 1. While the level was on par with the development, it was far from acceptable for Beta 2. A few of the
SID level designers had discussed tweaking the level to improve the game play and technical aspects. That is when WetWired took the level into his own hands. Development was very hush hush and Wet did not pass many screen shots. I had to beg to get a look at what we was doing. As you can see, there are a few core sections of the level remaining, such as the tunnels and the canals which are now filled with water. The old bridges and railroad tracks also remained.
[SHOT #4] | [SHOT #5] | [SHOT #6]I can remember when I was privy to check out these shots. The uncontrollable drooling began. But this was just a piece of what was to come. WetWired did not give out this level for any sort of play testing until this, the most recent build of Beta 2 was internally released by SID. Until a few weeks ago, this level was kept under wraps, I rarely spoke about it and never posted any screen shots. Then, one day while checking out
Quake 3 World Forums and I came across a thread from Wet, which showed off his current iteration known as
ut_revolution.
[SHOT #7] | [SHOT #8] | [SHOT #9]I have a feeling
ut_revolution is going to be the most anticipated level that gamers in the community will want to check out. I am not taking anything away from the other outstanding mappers on SID. Wet seemed to set the bar in quality and development with his release of
ut_ricochet. It looks like he has done it again with
ut_revolution.
Look for more old Urban Terror shots coming soon. I don’t think I will run out, but I think this will give the community some idea just how far the mod has come since December of 1999.
