Rollo Pollo
Okay first off, I completely screwed up yesterday’s Oswald Rant But the link has been corrected and the file is uploaded and ready for you to partake in. Just finished a new poll, thanks in part to Bar-B-Q. So, if you have any problems send all the hate mail in his direction.
After spending some more time reading current Rants and Raves on PlanetQuake I am not sure how I should respond to the comments made by Ash. He stated:
Most mod teams aren’t in it for the fun anymore, but instead are in it for the glory, respect, and “professionalism”…for every person out there cheating, or demanding the respect of a software developer for making a mod, there’s someone that’s still playing just for the fun of it after all these years…”
Those were the two thoughts that really got me thinking. I can’t disagree with what Ash says based on e-mails and comments I have received from gamers playing Urban Terror, who said that the developers of [insert Brand X mod here] did not really give a shit what the gamers thought. That is why I feel Silicon Ice Development is different. Our hands on approach and involvement in our community really shows that we are not in it for the fame and fortune but for the fun of it. That has been our basic idea since the beginning, to create a mod which is fun. To bring those lost gamers back home to where they belong, playing Quake III and hopefully Urban Terror.
I have been receiving more and more screen shots and pk3 files of mappers who want me to check out their level and share them with the other members of SID. Keep them coming. I am never too busy to check out a new map. I did have a chance to talk to Makro PN, the designer behind the screen shots listed under the ‘Latest Action Fix’. He says, “I’m not going to release it too soon though…below SID quality though… that’s why I won’t release it….but I already started working on a new map and I’m going to do my best to keep up with SID mappers. mcity simply is no match for venice, casa or rommel. ” At least he is thinking along the lines of some of level designers in terms of overall quality. This is a fact that many in the community must take notice of and work on perfecting.
