What a big poll!
Monday makes the first new 6th Floor Poll of the new year. This week we want to know, “How would you rate the popularity of Urban Terror?” With the introduction of a Macintosh installer, their seems to be an influx of new blood to Urban Terror. New blood is fresh blood and fresh blood means newbies! Just kidding….hell, with as little as I play, I feel like a newbie. You know, shooting my teammates in the back, acting like a lemming. wondering why there are no weapons or ammo lying around. But, go check out the poll and let us know what you think.
Urban Terror news it nil today. Why? Because I was out playing movie critic in the box this afternoon. This week’s feature was the movie Traffic starring Michael Douglas and Catherine Zeta-Jones. Good flick which centers are the United States unending war against drugs, the cartels of Mexico and how drug usage hits home with two families. The movie is quite complex, as you follow a few different story lines that are interrelated. If you get a chance, check it out! Too bad CZJ was not look as fine as she did in Entrapment. You know the scene I am speaking of.
Looks like I struck a nerve with a few gamers thanks to my rant, Blinded by Counter-Strike. Let me try to explain a bit more detail. First, there are some good mods out there on other engine. Unreal Tournament has Tactical Ops, Strike Force and Infiltration. Quake III has, the obvious, Urban Terror and the upcoming release of Navy Seals. There are other options for gamers, which is what I was trying to get through to those who see nothing else but Counter-Strike. Another fallacy. “All version of Counter-Strike were good!” Come on, if you believe this, then you are truly blinded. Like any mod, Counter-Strike had a few downfalls. Was it Beta 3 or Beta 4, there were times that everyone in the community was bitching and complaining about “what the developers did to the mod.” We went through it too.
What truly separates Counter-Strike from any other mod currently is that Counter-Strike is more less a finished product, while the other mods are still in heavy development. It is like comparing apples and oranges, or PCs and Macs. You can’t do it, but since this is what many gamers believe to be the BEST mod around, we like others, will continued to be compared to it.
While there is no way around it, Counter-Strike is a good mod. Hell, the numbers do not lie. 25,000+ gamers playing on a game engine that is aging. But which has qualities and features that the Quake III engine has yet to address. What it all comes down to is a choice. Your choice in what you want to play. Like Urban Terror, SID is in to creating a strong community centered around a mod which is above all, fun. Hopefully this has dispelled a few of those possibly “vague and unsubstantiated” comments I made in my rant.
