Fueling the Terror
I spent about 5 hours on some of the Urban Terror servers such as, NGI, Barrysworld and ISPGN on Saturday evening, to get a feel for the community and some of their thoughts and comments. Overall, the community seems to be gaining momentum, in addition to gamers each day. The number of downloads continue to rise, both good signs for Silicon Ice Development. Of course, trying to answer questions and play at the same time never does work out too well, but nonetheless, it is great to hear the positive comments from gamers when I am checking out the servers.
SID Level Designer, Tristian “Tub” Barrett asked if I could read his rant and post it here, on The 6th Floor. Of course being a community guy, I read his article….er, rant entitled, “What is a Counter-Strike Clone?”. If you followed The Floor this week, then maybe you caught an article by Merlin on Converted2, which I left I compelled to respond to. Like Madonna, Tub feels the need to “express himself.” So, check out What is a Counter-Strike Clone?” by Tubby.
We also delivered another interview this week. From SID comes Matt “SweetnutZ” Vainio, a 2D Artist/Level Designer, who give us his thoughts on Urban Terror, map development, the upcoming Urban Terror UI, along with a few tips and pointers for community level designers. Hopefully we will be able to bring you some early development screen shots of the new UI that is in development. But, until that time, you will have to read and reread, the interview with SweetnutZ.
I have begun working on ut_reactor again. I am feeling good about this map. Again. I got the breakable glass implemented and all the sliding door operating correctly last night. Now if there was just an easy way to BS your way though lighting. While two dead areas to exist, I am thinking of doubling the size in an attempt to make the map playable for the Urban Terror CTF variant game play mode which will be included for Beta 2.
Finally the Link of the Day comes from something taken from a page of The X-Files. There is a game which is currently under development in Oregon at a developer called, Anim-X and is titled Majestic-12, which was taken from secret group who’s project was to conceal the existence of UFOs and alien beings. The game sounds very cool, while it strays from your normal, run of the mill FPS or even adventure game, it is bound to be ground breaking. Information is still sketchy on the details. The best information I found was taken from PCGamer, the December issue. I will tell you this, I WILL be playing this when the first story begins. Rumors have it slated as early as next month.
