It’s never too early to start looking ahead to the end of May and the CQWW WPX CW Contest. Last year this was a contest I put the more preparation in for and nearly a 25 hours effort. Unfortunately, I came up very short of the goals I set for myself. While I still attempted to find some positives I am already working up an operating plans.
Most notably the biggest improvement over 2010, the increase of Solar Cycle 24. I intend to give 15M a much better workout than I did last year and with any luck it will be the band I spend the most time on. I suspect 20M will come in with a strong showing as well. Hopefully 10M opens up as well, not only within the US for to JA, OC and SA.
I am debating putting a call into W6JZH for the possibly use of his station for WPX. I suspect if I were to do that my goal of 1,000,000 points would be assured, especially having better antennas for 40M and an inverted vee for 80M, which is where QSO points increase that would really push up a final score. Even if I don’t use John’s station I feel with band conditions improving if I can keep the “BIC” for 30+ hours I could have another shot at 1 million points.
